RESEARCH INTERESTS AND PROJECTS
Dr. Cannon's research students have lately been working in the field of environmental chemistry. We use ICP-OES (inductively-coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy), an instrument that allows us to detect various elements along with their concentrations in aqueous solution. Recent student projects include efforts to quantify lead and mercury contamination in soil and plants from the 2023 wildfires around Lahaina, and measurements of lead concentrations in ghost crabs from local beaches.
